Special Education Services

LUMIN Schools offers special education services through the Special Needs Scholarship Program, a state-wide program that provides financial support for students with disabilities attending private schools. Based on the services outlined in the IEP, eligible students receive services such as accommodations and modifications of curriculum, small group or one-on-one interventions, and behavioral support. 

We do our best to service students with IEPs, but there are instances in which a student’s needs exceed what we can accommodate in our schools. IEPs will be carefully reviewed prior to acceptance to the program to make sure appropriate services are available.

Referrals for Special Education 

LUMIN Schools is committed to partnering with families and the school district to carry out referrals for special education. We follow the process outlined below:

1. Student concerns are made known to the Director of Special Education by teachers, staff, or parents. 
2. Student data is gathered through testing, observations, and teacher interviews. 
3. Interventions are implemented and progress is monitored. 
4. If concerns persist, a referral is made to the public school district. 
5. Additional information is gathered by the public school district as part of a Special Education Evaluation. Federal criteria is used to determine if there is a need for Special Education and an IEP is developed.
