The LUMIN Model

We are a Christ-centered, people-first network of schools where the well-being and success of every student guide the decisions we make. We believe in the power of continuous growth and improvement—not only for our students, but for every member of our team. While each of our six campuses has its own unique identity, community, and strengths, they are united by a proven approach to education: the LUMIN Model. This time-tested model provides a strong foundation for academic excellence, spiritual growth, and character development, equipping students to thrive both in school and in life.

We believe character formation is just as important as academics. Even the smartest among us will struggle in life without strong character. A school culture built on strong character means students feel safe to be themselves and participate in the learning process without fear of peer ridicule and judgement. A strong culture also means fewer classroom disruptions and more learning time.

 

The basis for our character education program is RISE UP. Each letter stands for a character trait that is taught, modeled and replicated by students. The six character traits are explored over multiple weeks as we first introduce the major trait, explore descriptor traits, and then celebrate how we have seen the trait used over the course of the unit. This gives scholars and staff members the opportunity to spend time exploring the traits and internalizing each one. The result of this process is a community that exemplifies living an intentional and character-driven life.

 

What happens when our scholars demonstrate the RISE UP character traits? Simple, we send them to the principal's office, and sometimes we even call their parents! This is part of our positive office referral program. We are always looking for ways to celebrate and

reinforce positive choices and behaviors.

 

 

As a Christ-centered network of schools, we talk about Jesus and do our best to live like Jesus all day, every day. Our RISE UP character education program is tied to character traits and verses found in the Bible. In addition, each school holds chapel at least once per week where children have a chance to dive deeper into God's word and praise his name. 

 

 

Several of LUMIN's campuses are supported by partner churches that offer weekly worship services for students and families who wish to feed their own faith. We are grateful to the pastors at these churches and others who are involved with the student body, providing encouragement, spiritual support and guidance.
